Baby Burke Debuting September 2018

As you may have guessed from the title, we are expecting!!! Don't be confused by the name, my husband's last name is Burke so our little one will be affectionately known as BB for the time being until we solidify a name.

It's been a whirlwind as anyone who's experienced a pregnancy knows. From the crazy moments of finding out, to the all-day nausea, to the family reveals, to the quiet late-night chats in bed about what our future holds (that last one usually includes me making a really annoying baby crying noise so my husband understands exactly what it's gonna be like - the man keeps telling me he thinks it will be fun to have a baby sleeping in our room *insert eye roll emoji here*).

Now a little bit more about how it all happened (don't worry I won't share too many details!)....

Back in the fall as we were finally finishing up constructon on our home we decided to start trying. Unfortuatley, despite late periods in both November & December, our first two attempts were not fruitful, but I think, knowing what I know now, I was a little off with the timing. I decied to finally read a book a friend of mine suggested Take Charge Of Your Fertility and immediatley downloaded the app to start tracking my temperature and cervical fluid (sorry if this is TMI but ladies I know you're cool with it).

It became fascinating to understand my body and the process it was going through and low and behold it was abundantly clear when I was ready to try. In fact I was so in tune that I told my husband the exact two days I knew I was the most fertile and we tried once on both of those days and... BABY!

I know we were very lucky that it only took essentially 3 tries, but I do want to be clear that I had been off of birth control for 6 months and although we certainly weren't trying I did feel a little discouraged after months 1 and 2 of trying with no results. It happened to be that 2 of my good friends got pregnant on the very first try within just a couple of months/weeks before us and along with a few others I knew who had the same thing happen I was getting nervous I wouldn't be so lucky. So although we didn't go through anything very tough, for a couple months there I was a little on edge and can surely begin to understand the tough feelings and emotions that come along with all of it. As a side note, because of my Hodgkins Lymphoma and Chemo as a kid, I was warned by my Doctor that one of the medicines I had was known to cause some infertility problems so that had me a little worried too.

Of course we didnt find out until a few weeks after trying and the funniest part is we were actually on this trip to NY when we found out!

We were headed there for a weekend of fun with friends and since I knew I was likely to get my period on that Sunday I figured I'd take a test early just to rule out the possibility of pregnancy in case I wanted to have a drink.

So the Wednesday before we left I took a test: NEGATIVE. Of course two come in a pack so I brought the other one with me for a second try once we got there. On Friday morning I woke up early to meet my friend for a wokrout at Rumble and took the test right before heading out of the hotel room. Immediately I saw the single line meaning not pregnant and having seen this multiple times before I tossed it in the trash and went to the boxing class. I got back a little over an hour later and hopped in the shower while my husband was still snoozing. When I got out I just had this funny feeling that I ought to check the test again and lo and behold, there was that second line. I yelled out soemthing like "holy crap!" to which my husband said WHAT?? Are you ok?? Thinking I'd hurt myself.

That morning we didn't have plans until lunch so we took our time to process the news by strolling around Central Park and of course picking up a second pack of prengnacy tests which, you guessed, it came back poisitive.

We then spent the entire weekend trying to hide it from our friends, which actually wasn't too hard because the main couple we were with aren't big drinkers or sushi eater!

Overall it was a really fun time to find out and we even made it a point to snap a couple photos of ourselves on that trip...
